Fava bean protein

Also known as Broad bean protein isolate, Vicia faba
BEVIDENCE

One of the better single plant proteins, with one genuine caveat.

The honest take
Plant protein spent a decade being worse than whey and mostly is not any more. Fava is one of the better single sources. The reason to choose it is that dairy does not suit you — not that it is cleaner, greener or healthier, none of which we claim.
What it is
Protein isolated from the broad bean. Dairy-free, soy-free and strong in lysine, though like most legumes it is short of methionine on its own.
How it works
It is food. There is no mechanism beyond digestion.
What it does
Supplies the amino acids the body cannot make, from a plant rather than milk.
Who it's for
Anyone whey does not agree with, and anyone avoiding dairy.
How to use it
One scoop, water or a smoothie, whenever the day is short of protein.
What to expect
The same as any protein: nothing acute, everything cumulative.
The research
Read the grams and the calories, not the adjectives on the front.

Read the labelCONTAINS FAVA. Anyone with G6PD deficiency must avoid fava entirely — it can trigger haemolytic anaemia. Uncommon, serious, and more prevalent in Mediterranean, African and Southeast Asian populations.

Evidence grades describe how well an ingredient is studied — A well-supported, C emerging — not a promise of results. Educational, not medical advice. Doses are typical ranges; follow the label on the product.
