BODY / SYSTEM 08 Ritual — BODY

The tan you keep

Everyone plans the tan. The beach day, the booth, the spray appointment — scheduled like meetings. What nobody plans is the skin underneath it, which is strange, because that's the part doing all the work.

Colour — sun, spray or gradual — sits on the surface layer of your skin. Rough, uneven, flaky surface: rough, uneven, patchy result. Smooth, hydrated surface: even colour that hangs around. This isn't marketing; it's just how skin works. The prep is the outcome.

The night before: POLISH, everywhere the colour is going. Coffee, brown sugar and sea salt buff the surface even, so whatever happens tomorrow happens uniformly. (Spray-tan technicians beg clients to exfoliate first. Now you're the client who did.)

The days after: moisture is the whole game — colour fades as skin sheds, and dry skin sheds fast. CONDITION on the high-wear zones, and the aloe of BARE where skin caught more sun than intended. Skip the scrub while you want the colour to stay; POLISH comes back when you're ready to reset the canvas.

That's the entire ritual: buff before, moisturise after, nothing mystical in between. The tan is temporary. Looking after the skin it lives on — that's the part you keep.
